My Journey

Nothing worth having happens overnight. There are no overnight success stories in the kingdom of God.
I was in service yesterday and God began to minster the following to me: You had an expectation that things were going to be easy. I did not give you the idea that your blessings would come to you overnight. You had an expectation, that in your own strength, things were going to come to you easily. I never told you that! You had an expectation of how things were going to map out, this was your will not mine.
In 2013, I was given a great opportunity to design a collection that was shown to hundreds of people in one of the largest venues in NYC. Not only was I presenting in front of hundreds of people but also I was presenting amongst designers from around the world. My first collection was shown to some of the most prestigious faces in the fashion industry.
After the show was done, I was all set to move forward and start my business; or so I thought. I thought that this was God’s divine plan for me. So, I ordered my domain name, created my website and reached out to individuals to help me launch my brand. I had it all mapped out in my head that this was God’s will for my life. I was thanking Him for the opportunity while shouting His praises. No one could tell me that this wasn’t God’s plan for me. How could they? God afforded me the opportunity to change careers and launched me into fashion. He afforded me the opportunity to get accepted into The Fashion Institute of Technology, two weeks before the semester started; they originally sent me a denial letter. This had to have been God’s will for me. WRONG!
Let’s fast forward a bit…
So months and months after trying to force my plan on my life became tireless and depressing, I gave up. At this point, I had a hard time getting out of bed because I just couldn’t understand why things weren’t working out for me. Why wasn’t I moving forward in my business but instead folding clothes at a retail store. I had two degrees and so much talent; “Why had I gone backwards?”, I thought. I began to argue with God and question Him about why I was having such a hard time moving forward. I resented God and I resented the opportunity He gave me. I was upset with God and it took me a long time to shake it. I felt worthless! I felt that my work was in vain! I was confused! I was angry! Never in the midst of this did I think: “It may not be God’s plan for me to start my business now!” No, never did I think that! I was battling with my expectations of how things should be and God’s plan. I subconsciously had an expectation of being an overnight success and giving God the glory BUT God saw otherwise.
Here are three things I want you to take away from this story:
  1. God cannot get glory out of something HE had nothing to do with! What is this glory I am talking about? Recognition! One thing you have to realize is that God blesses you so others may be lead to HIM!
  2. God blesses you that others may believe He’s real! God blesses you that others may have the hope of salvation through you! God is not blessing you just to bless you! God is not blessing you to hoard what you have!
  3. No blessing from God comes overnight! There are no overnight success stories in the kingdom of God. Everything that God does goes through a process! There is a method to God’s madness.
So just like God reminded me: Nothing worth having happens overnight, I want to use those same words to encourage you. The ironic thing about this whole story is that I still have not achieved, in totality, the things I desire but I have peace! I have peace because I know that God will give me the desires of my heart! I have peace because I know that all things will work out for my good. I have peace because I know that anything that is worth having takes time. God is taking His time with me. I am convinced that He is preparing me with the tools, skills, and resources to truly fulfill my purpose.
Do you know how long, hard, and arduous the process of creating a diamond is? Do you know that even when the diamond comes to the surface of the land there is still more work to be done to it? Do you know that a diamond has to processed before it can get on the hand of that lucky lady? There is a process to God’s madness. If you want a diamond-like blessing; created with a great foundation; and unbreakable, you cannot skip out on the process. Nothing can break a diamond!
Don’t be like those that have gone out on their own accord and blessed themselves and attached God’s name to it. Wait, go through the process, and allow God to give you that permanent blessing He has for you. Remember: There are no overnight success stories in the kingdom of God.

Such a great post Sade!! Success is not an overnight journey and patience is required to attain the goal! But in the meantime, it’s important to enjoy the journey.
