Seeing in the Dark: New Year, New Perspective

I don’t know how else to describe the past few weeks of my life aside from: dark. There were days that I laid in bed and felt a dark cloud lingering over me.

Darkness can be an analogy for confusion; it can be the time between the vision and the promise, uncertainty, or even doubt. My darkness was more attributed to the latter.

I felt tired of trying and started to think: “What’s the use?” I was growing weary of praying for the same things over and over and seeing no results.

There were even times the enemy came in and taunted me with things like: “you tried that before and it didn’t work”. In those moments, I felt as if there was no use in trying again, praying again, and believing again.

Life has its way of knocking you off your feet. Opportunities come and go and go again until you reach the point of exhaustion. Disappointments have their way of clouding our vision.

Unbeknownst to me, everything was lining up for me but my vision was twisted. I’d been looking at my life through the wrong lens. I’d let things, I saw and heard, cloud my vision.

The forces of darkness can never take away what God has for you. Satan and all of his imps could never stop the plans that God has for you. The plan of the enemy is to steal, kill, and destroy. If he can’t stop God from blessing you, he will try his very best to steal your joy right before the blessing. If he can’t stop God from blessing you, he will try his very best to kill your vision and keep you stuck. If he can’t stop God from blessing you, he will try to destroy your resources and cause you to lose sight of your faith and God’s promise to bless you.

All these things seem hard when you’re up against them. The pressure from the adversary can be draining, I know; but fight for what’s yours. God knew we would experience trials here on this earth, He reminds us of all these things in His word. He knew the adversary would try to hinder us from His blessing but God says to take heart because He has overcome the world. In other words, we have nothing to worry about.

John 16:33 NIV

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

God does not want us to go at this thing alone. When we get weak, He wants us to look to Him. Shift your perspective.

2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

You may lose sight of the promise God made on this journey. The vision may seem further and further away. Time may make you grow weary. People may plant seeds of doubt, in you, with their nagging negativity. You may be constantly reminded of their words:

“That’s not going to work”

“That makes no sense”

“You’re still waiting?”

 “Aren’t you too old?”

 “Time’s ticking”.

Or maybe you’re plagued with your own negativity:

“This is not going to work”

“This makes no sense”,

“I’m still waiting?”

 “I’m too old?”

 “Time’s ticking”

You look to heaven and think “God where are you?” You may feel overlooked, undervalued, and unimportant. “God, do you even hear me?” you think.

How are you supposed to see in the dark? Perspective. God is challenging us to view our life from His perspective vs focusing on our circumstances.

If you take a step back from whatever situation you may be experiencing, you may notice that things are not as bad as them seem. Perspective.

God never intended for us to journey along life alone; He sent Jesus to be an example and left us the Holy Spirit to be our guide. In your darkest of moments, instead of secluding and isolating yourself, call out to God.

Let’s Pray:

God, help me to see through this mess.

God, give me your vision.

Lord, I believe in you but help my unbelief.

Lord, you know the areas that I am struggling inside; I invite you in.

God, I give you permission to come in; cause me to have your vision for my life.

What is it that you want me to do? Where is it that you want me to go? God, I give my will over to you knowing that you have my best interest at heart.

I thank you for making every crooked path straight.

I thank for removing the scales off of my eyes.

I thank you for taking position as Lord in my life.

I am nothing without you. I am fully dependent on you.

Thank you for showing up in my darkest of moments and proving that you are the light of this world.

You are my hope when everything around me seems bleak.

Thank you Lord!

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” -John 8:12

Let this be a reminder to you!

Dream again!

God is faithful. His word never changes and He hasn’t changed His mind about you. There’s nowhere you can run to escape Him. He will chase you down to ensure you finish the great work He’s begun in you. Don’t lose hope and don’t lose sight of the vision.

Here’s the promise:

“For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; for it will certainly come, it will not delay.

Habakkuk 2:3

I want to encourage you of this truth:

Every dream will be realized and every promise will be actualized. God is not in the game of broken promises. What vision did He give you for your life? What has He laid on your heart to do? Go for it and don’t lose sight of it !

He’s faithful to do it!

Darwin Hobbs sings:

Exceedingly, Abundantly

Above all, all you could ask or think

According to, the power

That worketh in you, you…

God is able to do just what He said he would do

He’s gonna fulfill every promise to you

Don’t give up on God, cause He won’t give up on you

He’s able

That is the type of God we serve. He is a God of the exceeding! He is a God of the limitless not limited.

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23
