The Power of Words

It’s okay to be honest about the things that disappoint you but you cannot stay in that disappointment. You have to speak life to dead, disappointing, and unpleasant circumstances. Maybe things are not going your way but you must still speak life to your plans and goals.
There’s a story in the Bible about a man named Ezekiel. Ezekiel was a prophet of God who was in touch with Him; let’s just say he knew how to hear from God. One day Ezekiel had a vision of being in a land full of dry bones. Sidebar: One thing you must understand about the bible is almost everything has a heavy spiritual meaning. So what did these dry bones that Ezekiel saw, in his vision, represent? These dry bones represented the state of the church (Israel) at that time. Most things that are dry or dried up are lifeless. There was no life in these bones. The bones were without strength, without power, and barren. These dry bones can represent so many things in our lives today. I can think of a number of things, in my own life, that are dry or barren. Some of my relationships are now “dry bones”, my finances have been “dry bones”, my love life has been “dry bones”; the list goes on.
Now that you understand the analogy of the dry bones, let’s get back to Ezekiel’s vision. So. Ezekiel is standing in the middle of this valley with a bunch of dry bones and God says to him: “Son of man, can these bones live?” One the thing you must know about God is that when He asks a question, He’s not asking because He doesn’t know the answer, He’s asking to hear your faith. “So Ezekiel will these dry bones live?” God asks. God is asking Ezekiel a question to test His level of faith. So Ezekiel responds, like anyone probably would: “Oh Lord God you know.” That’s like me saying: “Um God, wouldn’t you know better than me?” So God says: “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.” For real God? You want me to talk to a bunch of dry bones?”
Yes! Talk to the dry areas of your life. God is saying: it is time to speak life (faith) to the dead areas of your own life that need reviving.
Listen sis, you may be in a valley of a bunch of dried up stuff just like Ezekiel. When you look around, everything is dried up. The relationship you thought you had that would lead to marriage has dried up, that savings account you’ve been depositing money into has dried up, those friends/acquaintances you had that said they would help you when you needed it–dried up. STILL SPEAK LIFE. God wants to see where your faith lies. Don’t you realize that if you speak death to your situation like: “things won’t work out”, “I’ll never make it”, “I’ll never find anyone”, and “there’s no point in trying”; you will receive exactly what you have spoken. Speak life! God said prophesy to this dry bones–this means speak a future of hope to your own situation.

“So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a [thundering] noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on the bones, and flesh grew and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them. Then He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”’” So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood up on their feet, an exceedingly great army.”

When I read that scripture I was instantly brought to tears. Just think for a moment of the power of God! Even if you have never experienced the power of God for yourself, you can see it in this example with Ezekiel. I was completely in awe at the power and strength of God to instantly bring to life the dead bones in Ezekiel’s vision. This spoke volumes about what God is truly able to do when you speak your faith. Just like God brought life to the dead/dry bones in Ezekiel’s vision, He can do the same for you. God is waiting for you to speak life. Your faith combined with God’s favor has the power to turn around any dark, dead, and disappointing situation you may be facing.
Ezekiel spoke life to the dead things in the vision and so must you. Begin to speak affirming words over your life. These 5 affirmations are a great start:

1. I have more than enough.
2. I will not give up.
3. I will be successful in all the things God has purposed for me.
4. I will not fail at this.
5. I have all the resources I need to fulfill the vision God has spoken to me.

As you start to speak life to these dry areas, the “bones” shall come to life.
