Living Beyond the Opinions of Others

How long will you wait to go after your goals? How long will you concern yourself with what others think of you? How long will your DESTINY wait for you to catch up to it? How long will you stay stuck in this place of nothingness waiting for the “right moment?”

What will they say? Will they say I’m not good enough? How will they look at me? What will they think about me? Do you know that these are all questions the enemy places in our head to keep us from doing what God has called us to do? Whether you start or stay stuck, people are ALWAYS going to have an opinion of you! Whether you’re doing great or you just cant get it together, people are always going to have an opinion of you.

When I first set out to do ministry, I had a lot of preconceived notions about what ministry really was. After spending much time with God, He began to minister, to me, what my ministry looked like to him. I had a lot of people in my ear about what ministry was, what my gifting was, and who God was. I had to learn how to separate their criticism, opinions, and sometimes negative thoughts with God’s truths and JUST START.  With a call and without a title, God pushed me to encourage people through the word of God. God pushed me to proclaim His truths on every platform that He’d given me.

I had a similar experience when I changed careers from social work to fashion design. A few people didn’t understand what I was doing and many questioned it. How do you go to school for 4 years, graduate, start your first job, and then change careers within a year? I can admit it looked a bit crazy but it was a part of my purpose. Although I didn’t have everyone on my side and those that were close to me didn’t understand my vision, in the beginning, I still pushed forward.

You ever have that gut feeling that you’re on the right track?

That’s what it was like for me. Although the conditions weren’t , and still aren’t, lining up the way I imagined; I refuse to stop moving forward. I will not stop living a life of intent!

Let’s just take a quick look at Jesus’ life for a minute…

Regardless of how much Jesus was ostracized, criticized, talked about, and ridiculed; He stayed on His mission. In this sense we are just like JESUS! They didn’t believe anything He said. How could He be the Son of God? Regardless of how many miracles He performed they thought He was a fraud. The thing about Jesus is: He still stayed on His mission regardless of the criticism. Friends, don’t let the opinions of others derail you from your mission. People may not understand your purpose. People may ridicule you and question your authenticity but just like JESUS, prove them wrong.

I would hate to be that person that says “don’t care what people think” but if caring what others think will hinder you from starting; “don’t care what people think”.

There is a relief in doing the things that others tell you that you cant do. I would like to encourage you of this : turn your ears off to the opinions of others. When they speak doubt in your ear, you speak life to yourself. When they tell you you’re not qualified, you remind yourself that GOD called you. When they say you’ll never make it, you shout that you can do all things through CHRIST.

I don’t know what is stopping you. I don’t know who is stopping you. What I do know is: you have a purpose and a plan that God set for you before the earth was form that is too important for you to be hindered.

For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:29
